Hi, I'm teacher Loren and I'll share some ideas bellow to do with your students:
Kindness & Appreciation:
Kindness Challenge: Start a month-long kindness challenge. Each day, students perform a random act of kindness at school. Brainstorm a list of kind acts together, like complimenting a classmate or making a thank you card for a staff member.
Notes of Kindness: Have students write kind words about one another. Put all the names in a jar, have each student pick one, and write a few kind words about that classmate. Exchange and display the notes in the classroom.
Door-Decorating Contest: Invite teachers and students to decorate their classroom doors with Valentine's Day themes. Students can then observe the creations and choose a winner.
Valentine's to Veterans: Make Valentine's Day cards for veterans to show appreciation for their service.
Creative Arts & Crafts:
Heart Collage: Gather materials with different textures and have students cut out hearts of various sizes to glue onto paper. This can be an individual or group activity.
Valentine's Day Cards: Make personalized Valentine's Day cards for family and friends. Use different materials like construction paper, glitter, and markers.
Heart-Shaped Crafts: Explore various heart-shaped crafts like paper plate hearts, beaded hearts, or heart-shaped sun catchers.
Valentine's Day Banner: Create a classroom banner with Valentine's Day messages and decorations.
Literacy & Language Arts:
Valentine's Day Books: Read Valentine's Day-themed books aloud. Some suggestions include:
"Happy Valentine's Day, Curious George!" by N. Di Angelo
"Mouse and Mole: Secret Valentine" by Wong Herbert Yee
"I Like You" by Sandol Stoddard Warburg
"The Valentine Bears" by Eve Bunting
"Ollie's Valentine" by Olivier Dunrea
"We Go Together!: A Curious Selection of Affectionate Verse" by Calef Brown
Poetry: Write Valentine's Day-themed poems. Explore different poetry forms like acrostic poems or "Roses are red" poems.
Story Writing: Encourage students to write short stories with Valentine's Day themes or characters.
Word Search: Create or use a Valentine's Day word search with related words.
Math & STEM:
Candy Heart Math: Use candy hearts for math activities like counting, sorting, graphing, or creating patterns.
Heart-Shaped Geometry: Explore geometric shapes by creating heart-shaped designs or pictures.
Valentine's Day STEM Challenges: Engage students in STEM challenges related to Valentine's Day, such as building a candy heart tower or designing a Valentine's Day card that can stand on its own.
Other Fun Activities:
Valentine's Day Games: Play Valentine's Day-themed games like bingo, memory match, or a scavenger hunt.
Valentine's Day Party: Organize a small Valentine's Day party with snacks, music, and games.
Classroom Decoration: Decorate the classroom with Valentine's Day decorations like hearts, balloons, and banners.
