What is Thanksgiving?
Thanksgiving is a special holiday in the United States celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. It's a time for families and friends to gather together and give thanks for the good things in their lives.
A Bit of History
The story of Thanksgiving goes back to 1621. A group of English settlers, called Pilgrims, came to America to start a new life. The first winter was very hard for them, and many people died. But with the help of the Native Americans, the Pilgrims learned how to grow food and survive.
The following year, they had a very good harvest. To celebrate, they had a big feast with the Native Americans. This first Thanksgiving feast is considered to be the origin of the holiday we celebrate today.
